Brno/Prague – At the age of 80, art historian, educator, and art critic Pavel Liška passed away, former director of the House of Art of the City of Brno and former rector of the AAAD in Prague. He also worked abroad, particularly in Germany. The Czech News Agency was informed today of Liška's death by Anna Kvášová, spokesperson for the Brno House of Art, who stated that he died on October 21 in Prague.
Liška was born in Benešov, studied at Charles University and the Czech Technical University in Prague. In 1969 he went to Germany, where he continued his education in the field of art history. He then worked as an educator at various German universities and as a curator or specialist at local museums.
From 1995 to 1997, Liška headed the Department of Art History and Architecture at the Technical University in Liberec, and from 1997 to 2001 he was the director of the House of Art of the City of Brno, where he prepared major exhibitions for artists such as Magdalena Jetelová, Jiří Georg Dokoupil, Anton Corbijn, and Gerhard Richter. He then joined the museum in Regensburg, Germany, and served as rector of the AAAD in Prague from 2007 to 2011.
