Prague - In the Czech Republic, storage units are starting to be built where individuals can store skis, surfboards, or even furniture and clothing. The so-called city boxes have been available in the Czech Republic for about three years, but only this year have real estate agents noted a greater demand, reports today's Hospodářské noviny (HN). The relatively new real estate business is also aided by the construction of apartments, where there is a lack of storage space. However, city boxes are also of interest to people who want to secure their belongings better against theft. There is also an increasing number of people who need to temporarily store their items in a safe place, for example during the renovation of an apartment. Executors are also showing growing interest in storage units. Companies offering storage units often buy old factories and convert them into storage boxes. However, interest in boxes is currently mainly in Prague, while the demand outside the capital is low. Real estate experts expect this to change in the future. There are now just under ten storage facilities in Prague where people can store their belongings. The units are most commonly rented out for a price starting from 150 crowns per week. The highest demand is for boxes sized one to three square meters.
