Dolní Kounice - The Diocese of Brno has begun work on the revitalization of the ruins of the Premonstratensian monastery Rosa Coeli in Dolní Kounice near Brno. The diocese plans to open the southern part of the monastery garden, revitalize the ruins of the monastery and church, and build a new information center. The Ivančicko microregion also plans to create a 15-kilometer bike path from Ivančice to Dolní Kounice.

"Work has begun in the southern part of the monastery garden and the construction of the new info center building. This will be followed by minor construction modifications inside the remains of the church and the monastery's quadrangle. In 2026, we will continue construction and restoration work on the site, as well as cultivating the garden and the area before the church," said the general vicar of the Brno Diocese, Pavel Kafka.

The ruins of the monastery are in poor technical condition. Therefore, the plaster layers and floors of the chapel, as well as the stone portals, will be restored. A barrier-free ramp will be created between the remains of the church and the cloister, and a new exhibition focusing on the history of the site will be developed.

The three projects of the diocese will cost more than 34 million crowns, while the construction of the bike path will amount to 43 million crowns. Thanks to the integration of all projects into a so-called integrated solution and their mutual coordination, they have managed to secure support from the IROP funding program. The EU will contribute more than 28 million crowns to the diocese's projects, while the subsidy for the bike path reaches 39 million crowns.

Rosa Coeli (Heavenly Rose) was the oldest women's monastery in Moravia. It was founded in 1181 near the center of Dolní Kounice by the Premonstratensian Order. In 1420, the monastery was burned during the Hussite Wars and was dissolved in 1526. The ruins of the monastery church with the Baroque residence are protected as a cultural monument.
