From the former Brno outroad to Prague, there will be a quiet street

Brno - Rybnická Street in Brno-Nový Lískovec, which served as an exit from Brno to Prague before the opening of the Pisárecký Tunnel, has been removed from the list of first-class roads. This was pushed through by its residents and the leadership of the city district. Once a busy street, whose residents protested against traffic congestion many times in the past years, it is set to transform into a quiet residential street, said the mayor of Brno-Nový Lískovec, Jana Drápalová, to reporters today.
    The reconstruction of the street should begin in 2009. Currently, designers are outlining its future form, with input also from residents. The street will see narrowed traffic lanes, more greenery, and additional parking spaces. The road will also be intersected by more pedestrian crossings, as there is currently none even near the kindergarten, Drápalová noted.
    The residents of Nový Lískovec will start the adjustments of the street as soon as the detour for public transport buses is removed. Today, approximately twice as many buses are using this route than usual. The vehicles are using the street due to the construction of the non-level intersection at Hlinky. The detour will end after the completion of the intersection, which is planned for this June, Drápalová said.
