Prague - The owner of a house who wants to start a roof renovation without experience no longer has to rely solely on offers from construction companies. The new web calculator RoofCalc 1.4 suggests various solutions for the roof covering and calculates the most advantageous option. Interested parties can find the calculator on the website of the Czech Technical University in Prague (ČVUT), whose Department of Economics and Management created the application. The calculator builds on previous applications related to apartment renovation and insulation. Its use is free for non-commercial purposes. The aim of the application, which was also developed with the State Housing Development Fund (SFRB), is to enable builders to evaluate options when renovating roofs and to choose suitable roofing elements. “The geometric solution is initially focused on flat and pitched roofs with rectangular floor plans and L and T shapes. The construction is described by basic data such as building height, floor dimensions, slope, and so on. The next specification of the application includes details regarding chimneys, downspouts, or roof hatches,” describes the application in its current newsletter SFRB. Modern technology is increasingly penetrating the construction sector. In addition to state institutions and schools, building material suppliers are also creating their applications. According to the vice president and general director of the Association of Entrepreneurs in Construction in the Czech Republic (SPS ČR) Miloslav Mašek, such programs can improve public awareness of the price level of construction work.
