The representative publication maps selected works from the socialist period that filled the public space of cities and rural areas in Moravia between 1945 and 1989. Artistic realizations associated with architectural and urban planning projects are presented over four hundred pages. In the introductory section, the reader will find more generally focused studies on the functioning of the contract system, political control of artistic creation, current protection of post-war art, and artistic centers in individual regions. This is followed by an extensive catalog supplemented with color photographs, which includes 505 realizations. “Here the reader will find monuments, sculptures, reliefs, mosaics, sgraffitos, graphic elements, as well as early land art realizations,” clarifies Michaela Čadilová on behalf of the editorial team.
The book completes the topographical part of the project Czech Art of the 50s – 80s in Public Space, documentation, surveys, and restoration funded by the Czech Ministry of Culture within the NAKI program, which was collaborated on by the University of Pardubice and the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague from 2016 to 2019. The publication follows the data from the database of post-war art in public space Statues and Cities, which tracks the territory of the entire Czech Republic and has been publicly accessible since last year.
The book can be purchased at the e-shop of the University of Pardubice.
