Jihlava - With the support of the Vysočina Fund, a book has been published about the history of the fortress and the Church of Saint James the Greater in Kamenice near Jihlava. The fortress above the level of the Kamenice stream was reportedly a favored summer residence of Kateřina of Valdštejn. In 1468, Czech King George of Poděbrady allegedly met Hungarian King Matthias there. However, the author of the book, Jaroslav Sadílek, questions other published claims as well. According to him, there are no written documents to support them. Some of the mentioned stays of monarchs and nobility may relate to other Kamenices. The town on the eastern edge of the Jihlava district previously belonged to the property of the Třebíč estate and during the medieval period was associated with the local Benedictine monastery. The preserved written sources, however, confirm Kamenice only from the modern era, from the first half of the 16th century. The church, however, according to a historical and architectural survey, was established in the first half of the 13th century, and the fortress a century later. The author, a specialist in the history and development of historical buildings and settlements, offers readers an analysis of archival sources as well as an architectural analysis of both structures. The fortress was saved from destruction by two reconstructions, in 1929 and in the early 1980s. The last comprehensive publication about Kamenice was published in 1912. In the past three years, the Vysočina region supported the publication of 89 publications through the Edice Vysočiny grant with six million crowns. It had a significant response among applicants: over 180 interested parties requested more than 13 million crowns from the region. This year, the region offers another two million crowns in the grant. Towns and municipalities, contributory organizations, non-profit organizations, as well as entrepreneurs or the authors themselves can apply for support for editorial initiatives related to culture, history, nature, and the landscape of Vysočina until August 21. They must contribute at least half of the costs themselves. They can receive 10,000 to 100,000 crowns. The published books are available in libraries, can be purchased at information centers or municipal offices, and in selected bookstores.
