Prague - The courtyard on Koněvova Street in Prague's Žižkov district is set to disappear, to be replaced by a parking lot for 25 cars. The Greens from Prague 3 oppose the allegedly insensitive modification. The investor defends themselves, claiming they have done nothing wrong. The municipal office also agrees with the project.

The Greens are upset that the previously green courtyard between Koněvova, Rečkova, Biskupcova, and Jana Želivského streets will be replaced by a parking lot. "The investor offers one parking space on the website for 390,000 crowns, and most of them are allegedly sold, even though there is still no construction permit," states opposition councilor Ondřej Rut (SZ).
The plan to build a parking lot was preceded by the renovation of a dilapidated house and the construction of attic apartments. According to an unnamed company representative from Půdy real s.r.o., they do not understand the Greens' argument. "When we acquired the property, it was uninhabited and an eyesore, everything around was densely overgrown," claims the investor, who states that the investment has led to the area being beautified. The project reportedly has the support of the municipal office.
"It should be emphasized that no greenery will be removed in this case and no trees will be cut down. The courtyard has never been a green idyllic corner; some apartment owners have long been parking there," said the spokeswoman for the city district, Iva Vojtková. According to her, the investor intends to rehabilitate the environment, including new greenery planting. "Moreover, there will be fewer cars parked on the street," she added.
The Greens are also unhappy with the increasingly common attic extensions in recent years. "Attic extensions are often insensitive, oversized, and lead to a disruption of the typical roof landscape and the character of traditional Žižkov construction. There are dozens of such alarming cases in Žižkov," the Greens claim.
