Prague - The Vltava between Prague's Holešovice and Troja will be spanned by a new bridge in the area of Partyzánská and Povltavská streets. The city council has announced a competition to select the best design for the architectural layout and construction of the bridge, as stated on the city's official bulletin board. The deadline for submitting proposals will end in June. According to councilor Radovan Šteiner (ODS), the bridge will be built in connection with the construction of the inner ring road tunnel under the Vltava. "It will be intended solely for local connection between Troja and Holešovice," the councilor said today to ČTK. In addition to cars, trams will also run on the bridge. "A tram line will lead from the current temporary tram bridge to Trojská Street," Šteiner noted. There will also be sidewalks and a bike path. "The bridge should be an architectural and traffic benefit for the entire area," he added. The city council has also announced a tender for the construction of the northwestern part of the inner ring road from Myslbekova Street in Prague 6 to the Pelc-Tyrolka intersection in Prague 8. According to the plan, the road will run through tunnels under Letná, Stromovka, and the Vltava. The construction costs are expected to reach nearly 21.2 billion crowns without value-added tax. The deadline for submitting bids will also end in June. According to the announcement of the public contract, construction of this part of the ring road should begin this year. It is expected to be completed in the fall of 2011.
