Velké Pavlovice (Břeclavsko) - By March, the representatives of Velké Pavlovice in the Břeclav region will select an urban study for the new central town square. They will choose from three designs that made it to the final round of the competition out of a total of 21 proposals for the construction of Velké Pavlovice square. Pavel Procházka, the local mayor, announced this today. The creation of the town center on an area of eight hectares will cost half a billion crowns. Work is set to begin in a year.

"It will be a difficult selection. The studies are quite different. Among them are a classical and a bold - modern design. We discussed the matter already this week at the council meeting and could not agree on which of these proposals is the best," emphasized Procházka.
Although Velké Pavlovice is one of the well-known wine centers in Moravia, it lacks space for numerous social events. The central square of May 9 is too tight to accommodate about 5,000 people for wine festivals and feasts.
Therefore, problems arise during large events. According to the mayor, the new central square should reflect the winemaking tradition in its appearance. The area between the bus station and the agricultural estate with an 18th-century granary is to become the new town center. Part of the old buildings in this area will be demolished. A tourist center will emerge from historical buildings, and there are plans for new construction of shops, banks, and apartment buildings.
