Brno - The Brno Public Transport Company is completing the construction of a hall for daily maintenance and cleaning of trams at the Pisárky depot. People can see it as they pass by the depot on line 1. Once the hall is finished, the track area between the new and old halls will also be covered. After that, the old hall will be renovated and equipped with new technologies, including a tram washer, said the company's spokesperson Hana Tomaštíková to ČTK. The company will pay about 400 million crowns for the construction.
The daily maintenance of trams will be faster thanks to new technologies, and there will also be more space for cleaning. "There will be a central vacuum cleaner and also a wheel detector," Tomaštíková said. The hall will have a design facade towards the street, with part of it being glazed like a showcase, so that people passing by can peek inside. The facade will also be designed to avoid reflecting the sound of passing trams to the other side into the residential area.
Already in November, trams are expected to pass through the hall, but it will only be fully operational later. Due to the construction of the facade, the track around the hall, which is used for trams to enter the depot, must be removed. The construction also includes a new track in the depot.
The entire project, including the roofing of the open space and renovations of the old hall, is expected to be completed by the end of August next year, after which trial operation will begin.
In the next phase, the construction of a loop is being prepared, which will allow trams coming from Bystrc to enter the depot, which currently have to turn around at Mendlovo náměstí. The documentation for the zoning decision is currently being finalized. The loop will be located roughly near the Lipová stop.
