Olomouc - Today, the construction of a home for seniors was initiated in Olomouc, which will offer paid accommodation for up to 120 people in the district of Slavonín. The project by the private company Anavita will cost approximately 100 million crowns. The home is expected to be completed in about a year. The new social facility with single and double rooms will provide seniors with continuous medical and nursing care, modern therapeutic methods, and rehabilitation. The city hall supported the project, offering the investor land from the city's property for sale and lease. "For the construction of the home on green field, we selected plots in an ordinary residential area with good transport accessibility,” said Mayor Martin Major (ODS) to reporters. This project will increase the capacity of social facilities for seniors in the region, where the demand for such services is growing. "The city has long been missing a facility that provides permanent care for elderly citizens. We are aware of the important assistance and care that a home can provide for seniors who are immobile or have serious complications, as well as for those whose families cannot care for them for various reasons," stated Deputy Mayor Eva Machová (TOP 09). The network of Anavita senior homes focuses particularly on the care of clients with Alzheimer's disease. A fifth specialized facility from this operator will be created in Slavonín. After the pilot project of a home in South Moravia's Šanov, Anavita has established similar facilities in Prague, Terezín near Litoměřice, and Modřice near Brno. "The purpose of our care is to provide clients with professional services in a dignified atmosphere of absolute safety and comfort. Our philosophy is an individual approach," said Jiří Dušek, the founder of the domestic private network and director of the Anavita Senior Home. In the Olomouc district, there are ten homes for seniors with a capacity of 935 beds, with nearly 3,000 applications registered. The waiting period ranges from six months to three years. Currently, there is only one senior home in Olomouc. The Pohoda Chválkovice facility operated by the Olomouc Region has 218 beds and a waiting period of two to three years. Consequently, the city approved last year the conversion of a panel house on Přichystalova Street into a rental house with care services for seniors. After a demanding renovation of the building, which in recent years was used as housing for rent defaulters, there will be 59 small-size apartments, including six barrier-free ones. The project will cost approximately 35 million crowns, and the costs will be covered by the Property Management Olomouc, owned by the city hall. According to data from the Czech Statistical Office, the average age of Olomouc residents is increasing. In 2003, it was 39.9 years, and by the end of 2012, it had risen to 41.9 years. At the same time, the proportion of people over 65 is increasing. While there were 14,615 of them living in Olomouc in 2003, two years ago, that number was 17,679.
