Hradec Králové - The City Hall of Hradec Králové is preparing the construction of a new park Skleněnka in the city center. It will be created in the currently unmaintained courtyard of houses next to the Tesco department store near the famous Glass Tower. The city council has already approved the call for tenders for the construction suppliers. Costs are estimated at 5.5 million crowns, most of which should be covered by a grant from European Union funds. This was stated today by the Deputy Mayor Jindřich Vedlich (TOP 09). The actual construction of the park should start this year. If everything goes smoothly, it should be completed this year, no later than the middle of 2015. "The park near the recently renovated Dukelská Street and October 28 Square is expected to be primarily used by mothers with children," said Vedlich. The park will feature benches and new greenery, as well as a children's playground, a water play attraction, and a pétanque court. The establishment of the Skleněnka park has been in preparation by the city hall for several years, and the park was originally intended to be about twice as large. Due to unresolved property relations throughout the area, the city hall will only implement half of the planned project for now, on land that belongs to the city. The city hall invests tens of millions of crowns into the renewal of greenery and the establishment of parks. Last year, the city completed an extensive reconstruction of Šimkovy sady for about 60 million crowns. The project included dredging of the pond, reconstruction of the original rotunda building, which now houses a refreshment area, as well as the construction of new paths and landscaping. Two children's playgrounds were also created in the park.
