The ÚOHS suspended the renovation of the Janáček Theatre in Brno

Brno - The Office for Protection of Economic Competition has suspended the planned renovation of the stage at the Janáček Theatre in Brno. The office suspects that Brno, which announced the contract worth 100 million crowns, did not proceed in accordance with the law. The antimonopoly office has issued a preliminary measure, so the city cannot sign any contracts in connection with the deal, today’s Brněnský deník quotes the vice-chairwoman of the office, Jindřiška Koblihova.
    The antimonopoly office was alerted to the competition by the company Elseremo. They wanted to apply for the bid but ultimately did not. The conditions of the competition stated that the company must have experience with a similar contract in the Czech Republic, writes the newspaper. "Such a requirement is only met by one or two companies. We mainly do repairs in Russia," said the proxy of Elseremo, Pavel Kozubík.
    The contract was awarded to the Brno company Frama, which partially repaired the theatre stage three years ago. According to Deputy Mayor Ladislav Mack, it is encouraging that the competition was won by a company that has already repaired the technique once. It is said that this will ensure that the newly reconstructed stage tables will function in accordance with the first ones. However, according to the proxy of the company Elseremo, Frama's offer is overpriced; Elseremo claims it could manage the repair at a price 30 to 40 percent lower.
    Jan Kaucký, head of the investment department at the municipality, told the newspaper that the condition requiring applicants to have experience with repairs in Czech theatres was proposed by an external company that secured the competition. "We did not favor anyone," he stated.
