Construction of a summer swimming pool will begin at the dam in Luhačovice.

Pozlovice (Zlín Region) - Pozlovice in the Zlín Region plans to start construction of a summer swimming pool near the reservoir in Luhačovice next year. The investment will amount to approximately 73.7 million crowns. The town hall expects a grant from structural funds of about 55.3 million crowns, and the project will also be supported by the city of Luhačovice.
Pozlovice has significant accommodation capacities near the reservoir, which are used by thousands of guests each year. "In recent years, however, we have been noticing a decline due to algae in the reservoir, which appear at the beginning of the season and remain throughout the bathing season," pointed out the deputy mayor of Pozlovice, Václav Sedlář.
Algae are a result of high concentrations of phosphates in the water, which enter the reservoir from untreated wastewater from surrounding municipalities. Therefore, the Zlín Region has decided to release 28.6 million crowns for the construction of a sewer system in Horní Lhota, Dolní Lhota, Sehradice, and Slopná. The total costs for the construction of the sewers and the construction of a pipeline to the treatment plant will require approximately 286 million crowns. The region wants the construction work to be completed by 2010 at the latest.
The completion of the swimming pool, which will rise where the existing paddling pool is located, is expected by mid-2010. The pool will have an irregular shape with a water surface of around 650 square meters. Visitors will also be able to use a four-lane slide and a toboggan, several massage benches, jets, and water spouts. The project includes a smaller pool for children. There will also be beach volleyball courts in the area.
The swimming pool by the reservoir in Luhačovice will be in operation only in the summer. However, the neighboring town of Luhačovice will start construction of an indoor pool with year-round operation next year. Similar services are lacking in the town, so the town hall expects the project, which will cost about 100 million crowns, to primarily increase comfort for local residents and spa guests.
