Jihlava - Larger construction companies in the Vysočina region reported the highest growth rate in the country for the first three months of this year. Compared to the same period last year, their basic construction output increased by almost 22 percent to 1.14 billion crowns. A similar growth was recorded only in the Pardubice region. According to the Jihlava office of the Czech Statistical Office, construction output in the whole country rose by nearly six percent year-on-year. Residential construction in Vysočina rather stagnated during this period - the number of completed apartments fell by four percent year-on-year to 313 apartments. Builders started constructing 307 new apartments, which was a growth of 3.4 percent compared to the same period last year. "A lot of industrial sites are being built in the region," said Martin Pertl from the Vysočina Construction Association to ČTK today. By the end of next year, contracts for road repairs are also expected to increase significantly, with the region planning to spend one billion crowns during this period. According to Pertl, there are few companies focused on roads in Vysočina, but many large firms have branches in the region that employ local builders. The region is home to 111 companies with more than 20 employees. In the first quarter, they employed 6,730 people with an average gross monthly salary of 14,600 crowns. Compared to the same three months last year, salaries increased by nearly nine percent, the highest in the country. Last year, salaries in construction stagnated at 13,500 crowns, which was the lowest among the regions. This year, Vysočina was outperformed by five regions.
