The construction of the post office on Sněžka will be prolonged due to the labor intensity and weather

Pec pod Sněžkou (Trutnov Region) - The newly built hut at the summit of the highest Czech mountain, Sněžka, will not be completely finished by the originally anticipated deadline of August 10. The unexpected complexity of the construction and adverse weather conditions on the summit in recent weeks have prolonged the work. The hut should start serving tourists by the end of this year's summer tourist season, Miloslav Klimeš from the construction company building the hut said today.
However, according to Klimeš, the hut will be in a condition by Friday that will allow for a dignified consecration on that day during the traditional Svatovavřinecká Pilgrimage. About 20 workers are currently on the site. By Friday, they are expected to install walkable grilles on the roof, finish the floors inside, and hang window blinds. The staircase may not yet be ready, Klimeš said.
The original construction, which consists of about 20,000 parts, has been prolonged by the greater than expected complexity of assembly and weather conditions. "With winds of up to 90 kilometers per hour and temperatures around two degrees above zero, many tasks simply cannot be performed. Also, due to the wind, the cable car was not operating," Klimeš said.
Hundreds of pilgrims from the Czech Republic and Poland participate in the Svatovavřinecká Pilgrimage to Sněžka every year. President Václav Klaus is also preparing for the hike through the Obří Důl to the summit of Sněžka, as he has a few times in the past. Tourists will be able to buy postcards at the old hut on Friday.
The first construction work on the hut began in the summer of 2006 with the modification of the foundations of the original Česká Bouda. The parts of the hut, designed by architects Martin Rajniš and Patrik Hoffman, were transported to Sněžka by cable car at the end of April. The construction of the wooden structure began on May 22. It consists of wooden components reinforced with steel ties and glass panels. They can be covered with wooden shutters.
Tourists in the new hut will find refreshments, a viewing terrace, and information about the Krkonošsko area. The investor Jaroslava Skrbková has pledged to remove the still-functioning original hut. The new hut is being built in the place where the original Česká Bouda stood. The dilapidated structure from 1868 had been closed since 1990, and its demolition took place in 2004.
