Zlín - The builders have returned to the construction site of the shopping and entertainment center Golden Apple in Zlín. Work had ceased due to a dispute between the investor and the general contractor in the first half of January. Moreover, until last week, archaeologists were conducting a rescue excavation at the construction site in the city center. Immediately after their departure, the investor resumed construction work on his own, Jiří Kratochvíl from the REIN Holding company, which is the investor, informed ČTK today.

Construction work began in mid-November. However, the general contractor, the company OHL ŽS, withdrew from the contract on January 9 and handed the construction site back to the investor on January 15. The company stated as the reason that the investor had not been able to prove the securing of funds for covering construction costs despite repeated requests and had not submitted complete project documentation.
According to the investor, the reason for the halt in work is that OHL ŽS failed to perform as a contractor. "The financial partner of the project officially became Česká spořitelna with the signing of the loan agreement at the turn of the year. However, the financing of the project was secured by issuing a bank commitment already in November 2006," Kratochvíl stated.
The Golden Apple shopping and entertainment center is expected to open this November. It will offer 12,500 square meters of retail space across four shopping floors. About 70 retailers will operate there, most of the spaces have already been rented out by the investor. In addition, a multiplex cinema with six halls will be established. The total value of the construction amounts to nearly half a billion crowns.
