Velké Pavlovice (Břeclavsko) - The restoration of the devastated granary from the 18th century and its transformation into a tourist and wine center should begin next year with the construction of a new city center in Velké Pavlovice in the Břeclav region. The project concerns construction on an area of eight hectares and will cost several hundred million crowns. CTK was informed today by Mayor Pavel Procházka.
"We already have the promise from several investors, primarily from hoteliers, that they will start their construction projects in the new square immediately after we begin with the reconstruction of the granary," the mayor stated.
Velké Pavlovice is a renowned Moravian wine region, which is visited by thousands of tourists each year. The granary is expected to be one of the main attractions for wine lovers. It will feature a wine gallery, an exhibition room, and a tourist center with information about wine cellars. The facility will also have a conference center.
The town hall aims to secure funding for the reconstruction of the granary from European Union grants. The city has announced an architectural competition, in which 21 proposals were submitted; a project addressing the appearance of the new center was selected. The city's leadership is currently negotiating the final small changes to the plan with the architects.
Although Velké Pavlovice is one of the well-known wine centers, it does not have spaces for hosting social events. The central square of May 9 is too small to accommodate about 5,000 people for wine festivals and celebrations.
The new city center should be established in the area between the bus station and the agricultural farm with the granary. A portion of the old buildings will be demolished in this area. New constructions of shops, banks, hotels, and apartment buildings are planned.
