Brno - A part of the Roma from the Brno-north district, who have been long-term non-payers of rent, could potentially be relocated to other municipal districts. According to today’s issue of the South Moravian supplement of the newspaper Právo, this is being proposed by the district mayor Leo Venclík. The dispersion of Roma among the majority population is said to contribute to their greater discipline. This proposal is supported by the Brno-based IQ Roma service and the director of the government council for Roma community affairs, while mayors of some other municipal districts are opposed.

In the area of Brno-north, there are between 5,000 to 7,000 Roma, of whom about one third do not pay rent, the mayor claims. He points out that there is a ghetto in the district with a majority of Roma who are not interested in work. Crime, prostitution, and drug use thrive there, the newspaper writes.
The director of the IQ Roma service association, Katarína Klamková, does not want the relocation system to be based on non-payers. She recalls how the problem was solved in Spain. "The original Roma inhabitants were reintegrated into social housing, dispersed throughout the country. When they live in new homes, undesirable groups do not form, and in the long term, the quality of the Roma generation improves,” quotes Právo Klamková.
