Brno - Representatives of the Ministry of Health and the Faculty Hospital at St. Anna in Brno have signed a cooperation agreement with the management of the American Mayo Clinic for the International Center for Clinical Research (ICRC) project. The conclusion of this agreement is one of the conditions for the release of funds that the government has promised for the construction. However, not all the requirements set by the cabinet have been fulfilled yet, said the hospital director Roman Kraus today to ČTK. The contract is for five years, but it does not specify any concrete deadlines for construction.
The American side commits in the document to provide the Czech Republic with the necessary know-how and to collaborate on its projects with the planned ICRC. The center is to be established with the support of the Faculty Hospital at St. Anna. Its main focus will be on research in medicine and related fields, with cardiology and cardiac surgery being the core areas. The government will discuss the center at its meeting on Wednesday.
The two billion crowns needed for its construction will be covered by the state for three-quarters, while the hospital should contribute over 500 million from its own resources. "Already this year, the state budget has allocated the first 50 million. The South Moravian Region and the Brno city hall will add additional funds in the tens of millions," clarified Kraus.
To release the first state funds, the hospital still needs to conduct several tender procedures. It is now preparing a tender for a company that will start this year with the preparation of the necessary land. Due to the center, the old, inadequate laundry and other unnecessary buildings will be removed from the hospital grounds, and later the B1 building, which is in a state of disrepair. In their place, a center for education and further training, laboratories for the development of new technologies, and spaces for specialized imaging methods will be built.
The center is expected to bring patients a better level of healthcare in the field of diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. It will also facilitate access for the Czech Republic to financial resources from grant agencies in the United States and the EU and attract industrial production in the medical and pharmaceutical industry.
