The council recommended keeping the development near Klamovka in the land use plan

Prague - Prague will likely not change its zoning plan to prevent the company Metrostav from building residential buildings on the land next to Klamovka Park in Prague 5. The city council recommended today to reject the change, with the final decision resting with the city assembly. Local civic groups are opposing the construction and have submitted appeals against the zoning decision for the construction. Prague 5, the investor, and local groups are now negotiating a compromise solution.

The negotiations are private, and participants are bound by confidentiality; however, according to information from ČTK, they are heading towards an agreement that would be acceptable for all. So far, though, not all parties have signed the draft agreement. Rejecting the change that would effectively prevent the construction could contribute to the completion of the negotiations.

The change to the zoning plan that would prevent the construction was requested by the previous leadership of Prague 5. The current leadership disagrees with it, even though they have also criticized the scale of the planned construction in the past. At the same time, they demand that the investor ensure sufficient civic amenities.

Nine residential buildings are set to be constructed on the land next to the park on Podbělohorská Street, which was originally designated by the zoning plan for sports areas and a school. Subsequently, the zoning plan was changed, and Metrostav purchased the land in 2004 as building plots with residential function.
