Prague - The Prague KDU-ČSL is against the planned construction of a golf course in Klánovický Forest. They want the councilors to approve a change to the land use plan aimed at preserving the forest, said Marián Hošek, chairman of the city’s Christian Democrats, to ČTK. The council will discuss the land use plan change likely in October. Although the Christian Democrats do not have any representatives in the council, the Green Party wants to support the change.

The company Forest Golf Resort Prague (FGRP) wants to build the golf course in Klánovice. "Forest Golf did not create the land use plan; it existed beforehand, and that is how they entered the project," said Ondřej Vaněk from FGRP to ČTK. "The other side has no studies showing that the forest will be destroyed," he added.
FGRP intends to clear 16 hectares of forest for a nine-hole course, according to city councilor Eva Tylová (Green Party). However, this will not be a continuous area, but rather delineated islets. According to Tylová, the area occupied will be much larger because it will not be possible to walk around these islets. It will be dangerous due to stray golf balls.
Critics of the plan are also concerned that the first hectares cleared will only be the beginning. "We believe that the whole plan also includes a social-sporting complex," stated Boris Procházka, chairman of the Association for Klánovický Forest. The investor denies this, claiming that clearing dozens of hectares of forest, constructing villas, hotels, and similar buildings is not at risk.
Klánovický Forest is part of the Klánovický Les - Čihadla Nature Park. It covers an area of 900 hectares and is home to many rare plants and animals.
