České Budějovice - Unique historical maps and plans of the Zlatá Koruna monastery in the Český Krumlov region were discovered in the archive by employees of the National Heritage Institute. According to historians, the drawings of the appearance of the Abbot's Garden, details of the maps, and their labels are significant. The unpublished materials can be viewed by interested parties in the cloister of the monastery, informs today's South Bohemian Deníky Bohemia (DB).

"Originally, I was looking for something completely different. When it became clear what kind of maps they were, I had an amazing feeling. Now we know how the monastery looked in the 1780s," said DB Jarmila Hansová, who discovered the maps.
According to heritage preservationists, unexpected materials occasionally appear in archives. "In the past, archiving had no system. Now we are trying to sort systematically and logically. However, it is work that will essentially never be completed," added Hansová.
The monastery is situated on a promontory surrounded by the Vltava River on three sides. The oldest preserved building is the two-story Chapel of the Guardian Angels, dating back to around 1370. The name originated from a gift from Přemysl Otakar II, who allegedly donated a thorn from Christ's crown to the monastery.
