Hradec Králové - The National Heritage Institute and the management of the castle in Ratibořice, located in the Náchod region, are preparing a general renovation of the residential building this year for more than 13 million crowns. In the area of Babiččina údolí, builders will be removing damages caused by the 2013 flood for eight million crowns, said Ivan Češka, the castle's custodian, to ČTK today. According to estimates, the work could begin in the second half of this year.
The residential building next to the main parking lot is to serve as housing for permanent employees of the castle after the renovations. A total of four residential units will be created in it. The repairs will include the replacement of the roof structure, roof, windows, and facade. New installations will also be made, including new plumbing, a wood pellet boiler, and a wastewater treatment plant.
Builders will also face work on the reconstruction of the Mill Stream in Babiččina údolí, which was damaged by severe floods. Construction work is to be completed by the end of August. The project will include cleaning the stream, removing sediment, replacing footbridges over the stream, and repairing sluices.
The castle management asks the public to respect any restrictions when visiting Babiččina údolí. Builders are planning to limit public access for about ten days in March on the route from Panský hostinec to Rudrův mlýn to Viktorčin splav.
Babiččina údolí, which Božena Němcová described in her book "Babička," is a frequent destination for tourists. They visit not only the Old Bleach House and the water laundry but also the Ratibořice castle building and the adjacent park.
