Brno - The police estimated the damage caused by the fall of a massive scaffolding in the center of Brno in June at 5.1 million crowns. Two people were injured in the accident, 20 vehicles were damaged, electrical lines were disrupted, and public transport was paralyzed. The perpetrator of the accident has not yet been identified. For general endangerment, he faces up to five years in prison, said a spokeswoman for the Brno police to ČTK today. "We are working on the investigation of the case. Expert opinions are being finalized, which are important for finding the person responsible for the accident," she added. She did not dare to estimate when the investigation would conclude. The 80-meter-long scaffolding collapsed on Benešova Street. It was standing next to a building whose facade was to be repaired. It collapsed across its entire length. In a 25-meter section, it also tore off the cornice of the building, creating a pile of rubble that was up to one meter high. If it had collapsed on a working day, the consequences of the accident would have been significantly worse. Benešova Street is one of the busiest areas in Brno. In the accident, a 21-year-old woman suffered serious injuries, and her 50-year-old father sustained minor injuries. At the time of the scaffolding's collapse, they were withdrawing money from an ATM located on the building being repaired. According to available reports, both are now in good health.
