Residents of Spořilov want to reduce traffic within the district

Prague - The residents of Spořilov in Prague 4 want to reduce traffic within this neighborhood. They therefore dislike the proposal for the renovation of Hlavní Street. They believe that traffic would become even denser. They have created a petition addressed to the Nusle town hall and the magistrate, which has been signed by over 1,600 people, reported today by ČTK Jana Ledvinová from the petition committee.
    Representatives of the Prague 4 town hall will address the residents' demands. "Next week, there will be a meeting with the initiators of the petition to find a common solution," said mayor Pavel Horálek (ODS) to ČTK today.
    The people in the petition state that the neighborhood is already constricted by 5. května Street, which is essentially the beginning of the Brno highway, the Southern Connector, and the busy Spořilovská Street. Residents are concerned that the renovation will make Hlavní Street an even better connector to the highway than it currently is.
    "Residents are requesting that it be adjusted as a residential street. Narrowing the roadway, placing speed bumps, and other features are intended to slow down local traffic and increase the safety of pedestrians, especially children attending the local school," Ledvinová stated. According to the people who signed the petition, it is unacceptable to allow drivers to continue using Hlavní Street as a shortcut.
