OLOMOUC - Traders from the center of Hranice in the Přerov region are worried about the existence of their businesses. Due to the reconstruction of Masaryk Square, they have lost customers, and their sales have significantly dropped. The town hall is telling the traders to hang in there and be patient. This is reported in today's issue of the regional newspaper Hranický den (Day). "Our sales have gone down by two thirds. For many traders, this will be devastating, and they will not be able to manage financially during the four months that the repairs are expected to last," said Josef Gallas, the owner of a flower shop, to the newspaper. Similarly, the owner of a newsstand, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed her concerns. "The square is now empty; not many people come here. It complicates our existence. When there are no sales, there’s no money to pay for goods," she told the newspaper. The mayor of the city, Vladimír Juračka, is asking the traders to be patient. "The worst will be the first two months when the roads are being addressed. Then the work will move to the center of the square. After the reconstruction is completed, the center will be attractive and will draw more people," said the mayor. The repair of Masaryk Square will cost more than 50 million crowns. As a result, the city center will gain a new look, completely excluding parking from the square for all but delivery vehicles.
