Kolín - An inseparable landmark of Kolín, the power plant chimney measuring 120 meters high, will soon change its appearance. The future design can be decided by the residents themselves. All they need to do is participate in a survey about the best decoration motif for the chimney. They can choose from designs created by students of Kolín's elementary schools. Voting is open until June 7, the Dalkia Kolín company informed ČTK today.
The project's goal is to give the public, especially children, the opportunity to influence the appearance of the city they live in. "In October last year, we asked children for design motifs through the directors of elementary schools. We received approximately 450 drawings from six elementary schools, which were displayed in the Dalkia Kolín premises, and current and former employees selected the 58 most successful ones," said the director of the Kolín company, Rostislav Krempaský.
The selected drawings are currently on display at the Kolín Cinema 99 and on the website www.dalkiakolin.cz. The public will choose the 20 best proposals, and a commission composed of representatives from the town and Dalkia Kolín will then decide on two finalists. The winning design will be applied to the chimney starting in August.
In a similar way, Dalkia has already changed the appearance of chimneys in other cities where it operates, such as Krnov.
Dalkia Kolín, formerly Elektrárna Kolín, became a member of the Dalkia group in January 2007. It supplies thermal energy to large industrial clients, authorities, schools, and most residents of Kolín. Its supplementary activity is the production of electricity.
Dalkia is one of the leading energy groups, operating in the Czech Republic since 1992 and employing 2,700 people here. It is owned by the world leader in environmental services, the Veolia Environnement group and EDF.
