NK could stand at Vyšehrad, it depends on Kaplický

Prague - According to Lidové noviny, representatives of the city council and the leadership of the National Library (NK) have reached a compromise solution regarding the construction of a new library building. The building is not to be located in Letná, as originally anticipated, but on a city plot in Vyšehrad, the lidovky.cz website reports. The author of the controversial design for the new building, architect Jan Kaplický, would have to consent to this, and that is currently uncertain.
The city could reportedly sell the library an undeveloped plot adjacent to the back of the Congress Center in Pankrác, where cars currently park occasionally. According to Kaplický's design, the library building would rise 48 meters above the Nusle Valley, the website stated.
According to LN, it is unclear who came up with the idea first, but both the city and the library management would agree to such a solution.
"I think it is a salvific solution for everyone. For me personally, the Pankrác option is conceivable," said the library director Vlastimil Ježek. Deputy Mayor Pavel Klega agrees. "If Mr. Ježek wants it, we will support it. It is a dignified place, an attractive location," he said. According to him, the city council is willing to commission a feasibility study to verify whether construction at the given site in Vyšehrad is possible.
However, the building design prepared for the Letná plain cannot be transferred elsewhere without the consent of the project’s author. According to the website, Kaplický was quite surprised by the information about Vyšehrad. "Who wants this? I have no comment on that," he reportedly responded to a phone inquiry.
Both Kaplický and Ježek still prefer that the library be built in Letná. However, this option appears to be definitively lost. The construction of the new library building is obstructed there by the tram loop at Špejchar and the currently under-construction transport tunnel, lidovky.cz writes. Moreover, the library project supposedly would not fit on the selected plot. In contrast, construction in Vyšehrad would likely not obstruct anyone and could probably fit on the lot.
