Prague - The reconstructed Old Burgrave's Office, opened today in Prague at Vyšehrad, is set to become a new cultural center. The formerly neglected site near the fortifications and viewpoint over the river has undergone a heritage restoration worth 25 million crowns. For the first time, the Gothic cellar will be accessible, featuring a new historical exhibition starting April 1.

The first program of the planned Sunday afternoon fairy tales for children is prepared for April 9, with another scheduled to take place two weeks later, according to the organizers. On April 19 and 27, the organizers are preparing the first concerts. A wide range of genres from jazz to Celtic music is set to be featured here in the future.
Vyšehrad became a national cultural monument in 1962, and the entire area, which along with the parks covers 13 hectares, has been gradually restored and rehabilitated with city funds since the 1970s. This also involved ensuring the structural stability of the Vyšehrad rock.
The Old Burgrave's Office is a medieval palace building from the 14th century, used by Charles IV. In the 20th century, the building was home to Sokol among others, and people remember it as a gymnasium.
Vyšehrad was a fortified site already in prehistoric times. It is also associated with legends about the first Czech princes, primarily conveyed through the literary treatment of "Old Czech Legends" by Alois Jirásek. These should pertain to the 7th to 8th century but are not a direct source for the earliest Czech history. Vyšehrad was likely an important fortification and residence of Czech rulers from the Přemyslid dynasty from the second third of the 10th century, reaching its peak in the 11th century during the reign of Duke Vratislav II., who ruled as King Vratislav I from 1085. In the 17th century, Vyšehrad took on the appearance of a baroque fortress, and by the 19th century, it had become a place of rest for famous personalities of the Czech nation.
