Mladá Boleslav - A multipurpose building with apartments and parking spaces will rise by spring 2010 at Komenského Square in the center of Mladá Boleslav. The city leadership was deciding between two investors interested in purchasing the land, ultimately selecting the company Activ, whose project offers more parking spaces. This was reported by Mayor Raduan Nwelati to ČTK. "However, we had significant reservations about the proposed external appearance of the building," Nwelati noted. The council members supported Activ's plan only on the condition that the new proposal modifies the building's exterior to better fit into the historical part of the city. The company will also further expand the building's parking capacity; according to Nwelati, they must add one more parking level to their proposal. "The more parking spaces, the better. Parking in the center is difficult, and very few families have only one car these days," the mayor remarked. Another condition is that the investor commits, under a contractual penalty of six million crowns, that the building will be completed by April 1, 2010. The council requires this condition because a major reconstruction of the nearby Old Town Square's ground level is planned for 2009, which will also reduce the number of parking spaces by approximately 140 compared to the current situation. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure new parking spaces in the planned multipurpose building as soon as possible. According to the mayor, the new parking garage, after adding one floor, will provide sufficient parking capacity to replace the reduced spaces at Old Town Square and additionally create a significant number of new places. On the other hand, the proposal from the second interested party, MB Invest, did not gain the council's support primarily because it offered considerably fewer parking spaces, even though the external appearance of their proposed building was better than what Activ originally proposed. A few years ago, a German investor also planned to build a parking garage at Komenského Square. However, prolonged negotiations ultimately ended with the council's disagreement with this plan.
