After 4000 Brňanů, the city’s urban plan is without the R43 road

Brno - About 4000 residents of Brno agree that the city should prepare a third version of the urban plan, in which the R43 road would not be drawn. The road is supposed to connect Brno with the Pardubice region. People had the opportunity to express their opinions on the new version of the urban plan until Tuesday, and approximately 4000 inhabitants of the three-hundred-seventy-thousand city supported the plan with their comments, while more than ten were against it. ČTK was informed today by Brno councilor Kateřina Dubská (SZ).
    The opinions of the people who sent their comments to the town hall differ from the views of the representatives of the city districts. Eighteen town halls out of the 29 city districts expressed their opinion on the plan to create an urban plan version without R43 within the deadline, 15 of them were against it, and only three welcomed the expansion of the urban plan assignment.
    "I consider the positions of the majority of city districts to be politically motivated, as there is no rational reason to resist the elaboration and evaluation of comparable data," said city council member Jana Drápalová (SZ).
    However, the town halls, often led by the Civic Democrats, consider the preparation of a new version of the urban plan to be a waste of time and money. It is precisely the ODS, whose members led Brno until last year's municipal elections, who have long advocated the construction of the road. In contrast, the Greens, represented in the current coalition, are among the most vocal critics of the plan.
    The construction of the expressway, which is to run around the Brno reservoir along a route defined by engineers as far back as the war, stirs emotions among the people in Brno and its surroundings. For example, civic associations from the districts of Bystrc and Kníničky, through which the road is planned to run, are protesting vigorously against its construction. On the other hand, petitions are being created in communities north of Brno demanding that the construction be started without delay. Some local governments have already established the Union of Municipalities for the Construction of the R43 Expressway for this purpose.
    Today, drivers traveling north from Brno use the road I/43. It is often overloaded, and thousands of cars pass through many towns, slowing down travel. Residents of towns and villages along the route suffer from noise, emissions, and have problems crossing the busy road.
