<Muzeum v Jablonci chystá výstavu děl sklářské výtvarnice Dany Zámečníkové> translates to <The museum in Jablonec is preparing an exhibition of works by glass artist Dana Zámečníková>
Jablonec nad Nisou - The Museum in Jablonec nad Nisou is preparing an exhibition of glass spatial objects by artist and architect Dana Zámečníková. In the atypical extension of the museum, which has the shape of a glass crystal, her works will be displayed in an exhibition titled "Land in Clouds" from this Friday until May 29.
It was precisely for the atypical space of the extension that Zámečníková adjusted her objects. "She has some works that do not have a defined shape and can work with them. Here, we utilized exactly what kind of space we have, in what lighting conditions the works will be presented, and based on that, the installation was arranged," said museum curator Petr Nový to ČTK.
Zámečníková made a name for herself in an international context already in the 1980s, and her works are part of collections in museums and galleries across Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia. "She is very different from what we might call the classic Czech wave of modern glass," Nový said. According to him, in her works she combines her education as an architect with that of a glass artist. "This means she creates such illusory spaces, tells stories. That’s why it is 'Land in Clouds,' because the story is understandable but represented with such a light hand and with such exaggeration and imaginative quality that I think the visitor can find various interpretations of what they see," stated the curator.
In the extension, there is, for example, an object representing the meeting of Aphrodite and the blue man. "Some might see an Assyrian or an Egyptian in it," said Nový. Other works include old family photographs adjusted in a painterly way and with flat glass printing technology, and an unmistakable interpretation of the black Madonna or a group of glass plates with texts from the Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus.
The exhibition does not have a classic opening reception; a guided tour with the author titled "meet & greet" will take place on March 24. "We will walk around the individual works and chat for as long as the visitors are interested," added Nový.
