Moravian Gallery has a new chief curator from Slovakia

Brno - The Moravian Gallery, the largest art museum outside Prague in the Czech Republic, has a new chief curator. The position, which had been vacant for over a year, has been taken by the Slovak art historian Alexandra Kusá. Until now, she worked as the head of the collection of modern and contemporary art at the Slovak National Gallery in Bratislava. The director of the Moravian Gallery, Marek Pokorný, said this today to ČTK.
    As head of the collection department, Kusá will have a decisive role in the creation of exhibition plans and the overall direction of the gallery. She must also participate in new acquisitions of artworks. The chief curator will supervise the heads of individual collections and will also take care of the Brno collection of modern and contemporary art herself.
    The position was vacated last January by the Japanologist Filip Suchomel. Since then, the Moravian Gallery has been searching for his successor. "We wanted a personality who excels not only at a professional level but also has sufficient experience with the functioning of an art museum and can perceive it as a whole," said Pokorný. Kusá has already collaborated with the gallery on the major exhibition project Slovak Myth.
    The Moravian Gallery currently manages three exhibition buildings in the center of Brno - the Governor's Palace, the Museum of Applied Arts, and the Pražák Palace. It also operates an exhibition in the birthplace of architect Josef Hoffmann in Brtnice near Jihlava. Recently, it acquired the valuable Jurkovič Villa in Brno-Žabovřesky, which it intends to renovate and open to the public.
