Krnov - The Krnov town hall is preparing an area for a new neighborhood of family houses. It will be created on the former training ground of the Soviet army in the Kabát hill location. Therefore, a thorough explosive ordnance survey must precede construction work on the 36 planned plots. CTK was informed today by the spokesperson of the Krnov town hall, Dita Círová.

"Krnov has long struggled with a shortage of land for the construction of family houses, which is reflected in the migration of particularly young people to surrounding municipalities," said Círová. She added that the city wants to at least partially reverse the unfavorable trend by creating more than thirty construction sites in the Kabát hill area on Ježnická street, and also by offering city plots, currently being used as gardens or agricultural land, to those interested in individual housing construction.

On Kabát hill, where there once used to be a military training ground of the Soviet army, overgrown shrubs have already been removed, and a specialized company is now conducting a comprehensive explosive ordnance survey. "This involves performing magnetometric measurements of the entire area to a depth of five meters, checking for anomalies and signals indicating the presence of metal objects and retrieving finds of ammunition, explosives, or detonators, which will then be handed over for disposal," explained Petr Mynář from the public procurement department.

The city has also announced a public contract for the preparation of documentation for the demolition of former military garages and for the project of technical and transport infrastructure for 36 family houses. "At the same time, work has begun on the construction of sewage systems. This sewage system, which will be completed by the summer of next year, will later connect the new family houses," added Mynář.

While a new integrated neighborhood is to be built on Kabát hill, individual family houses could appear in various locations throughout the city. Workers from the city property management department have already prepared a list of city plots that are designated for construction according to the zoning plan but are currently primarily serving as gardens and are maintained by tenants.

"These include, for example, plots on Ježník or in the streets of Petrovická and Maxima Gorkého. The tenants of the plots have been informed about the planned termination of their leases, and the city is already offering the first two for sale. One on Tolstého street for the construction of a family house and one for the construction of an apartment building on Hlubčická street," Círová said.
