MfD: Litomyšl will not sue the construction company over the hall

Litomyšl (Svitavy) - The accident of the municipal sports hall in Litomyšl, whose roof collapsed last January under the weight of snow, will not be resolved by the court. The Litomyšl councilors decided to withdraw lawsuits against the architectural office Burian - Křivinka, which designed the hall, and against the company První litomyšlská stavební, which constructed it. This is reported by today's Mladá fronta Dnes in the supplement for the Pardubice region. The designer, the construction company, and the city will share the repair costs equally - each paying roughly four million crowns.
The culprit of the accident is clear according to Mayor Michal Kortyš. He stated that the company which designed and built the roof for První litomyšlská stavební made a mistake. According to the mayor, they performed an incorrect static calculation. "But everyone made a mistake. Architect Burian should have kept an eye on it, První litomyšlská stavební should have monitored it, and the construction supervision from the city office should have monitored it as well," said Kortyš.
The city decided to reach an agreement with the construction company and the architect because it was uncertain whether it would win in court. "We could have also lost the court," said the spokesperson for Litomyšl, Michaela Severová. According to the councilors, the problem is that the accident occurred too long after the hall was built in 1998. "We won't fit within the typical warranty period," said Kortyš.
The sports hall reopened this September. Athletes received a new floor, funded by insurance from the company Ingenia, which repaired the roof. During the reconstruction, water leaked into the hall and damaged the original flooring.
