Prague - Vodičkova Street in the center of Prague, closed to traffic due to the partial collapse of a heritage-protected building on Sunday, could likely be reopened next week. This was stated today during a meeting with journalists after a city council session by the spokesperson for the magistrate, Jiří Wolf.
"Cleanup work will continue until the end of the week, then a structural engineer will come again, and only then could the street be reopened - most likely after Sunday," Wolf said. According to him, the councilors were informed about the situation and listened to representatives of Metrostav. The incident, in which no one was injured, is being investigated by the police.
The investor reconstructing the building denies concerns that they would also want to request a demolition order for the remainder of the house. Neither the magistrate nor Metrostav agrees with them. Heritage protectors demand at least the preservation of the facade. "The front wall is in good condition," Wolf confirmed today.
