Brno - Neither the city council nor the residents of the Brno-Bosonohy district agree with the concept of the planned Brno zoning plan. They mainly object to the intended transportation constructions, which they say would worsen the already poor living environment in Bosonohy. The biggest thorn in the side is the proposed highway interchange for the D1 highway and the future R43 expressway. It would see 130,000 cars passing through daily, said Mayor Anastazios Jiaxis (SZ) to ČTK.
"If option one or two passes, we will look for another location where we as a whole Bosonohy could move," the mayor said jokingly. In their list of objections sent to the municipal office, the residents of Bosonohy state that the noise load values, emissions, airborne dust, and particles of all kinds are already exceeded in the Bosonohy area. This was supposedly proven by measurements. "From this perspective, it is illegal to plan the placement of buildings that generate further traffic load and thus significantly worsen living conditions," they stated in the document.
The D1 highway runs around Bosonohy and is set to be expanded to six lanes. According to locals, however, when factoring in turning, merging, and parking lanes, there will actually be ten. "The width of the roadway will increase from the current 32.5 to more than 60 meters," they noted. Therefore, they want the highway to be widened only in one direction, towards Troubsko on the opposite side of the highway. Otherwise, they claim there will be no room left for a future bypass around Bosonohy.
Residents are also against the R43 road, which is supposed to pass through the Bystrc housing estate in a tunnel in northern Brno and connect to the D1 highway near Bosonohy. They advocate for the expressway to be routed outside the city limits.
However, even with the third option of the zoning plan, which does not account for the R43, the residents of Bosonohy disagree. According to the mayor, this is because it almost prevents them from new residential construction. "Because we do not want the R43 there, we have had all development plans cut off in the third option. If we do not want traffic there, paradoxically we cannot build either," he stated.
The route of the R43 road will not be decided by Brno in its zoning plan, but by the South Moravian Region. It will determine the corridor, which Brno then must incorporate into its zoning plan and specify the road's route over individual plots of land. The region is advocating for the route through Bystrc and around Bosonohy, despite the residents' opposition. Responsible councilor David Macek (KDU-ČSL) reportedly understands why the residents of Bosonohy are protesting, but according to him, it is up to the planners to deal with the protection of residential zones around the road.
The residents of Bosonohy are also against another major project, the proposed heat pipeline from the Dukovany nuclear power plant to Brno. The pipelines supposedly do not offer any benefits for the municipality and would only be a source of complications and restrict the rights of landowners.
Bosonohy has over 2,000 residents and is one of the rural municipal districts of Brno. To the south, it is bypassed by the highway, while to the north, it is bordered by gardens and wooded areas. The protected area of Bosonožský hájek is also located nearby.
