People wanted to see the new residence of the regional archive, but it was closed

Brno - People who came today to be the very first to see the new seat of the Moravian Regional Archive were not allowed inside at all. The building has not yet been officially opened; it was supposed to be made accessible exceptionally as part of the Day of Construction and Architecture. However, it seems the organizers miscommunicated with the archive's management, and the guided tour was ultimately cancelled. According to the organizers, 80 interested parties remained at the entrance, while the firm that designed the building spoke of up to 300 people.
    Other buildings opened as planned, with a total of nearly 2,500 people visiting them.
    Access was granted on Friday or today to the nearby campus of Masaryk University, the terminal hall of the airport in Tuřany, the wastewater treatment plant in Modřice, the new stage of the City Theater in Brno, the grade-separated junction at Hlinky, residential buildings in Chrlice, and the multifunctional Orion building in the Lesná housing estate.
    The greatest interest was in the theater complex, despite the fact that interested parties could have visited the Music Stage of the City Theater on several separate open days, and also in the university campus, stated the director of the National Building Center, Rudolf Böhm. Other buildings drew interest as well, such as the airport terminal, which had been open since Friday and was declared one of the five buildings of the year 2007 in the Czech Republic this week.
    Some buildings, like the wastewater treatment plant in Modřice, were opened only exceptionally. The new seat of the regional archive was also supposed to have its premiere today. However, the nine-story reinforced concrete building with a six-story glass annex in Bohunice remained closed.
    "It was agreed that a bus with students from the Faculty of Civil Engineering would come to see the building and learn something; the open door day was not mentioned," said Patrik Tuza from the A PLUS office, which designed the building. The facility, which cost 650 million, must therefore wait for its official opening at the end of October.
