Prague - A new footbridge across the busy K Barrandovu street in Prague 5 will be open for pedestrians and cyclists from June 1. The barrier-free bridge, with its unusual shape, will connect old and new Barrandov, leading from the tram stop of the same name to Slavínského street. It will offer the shortest connection between the stop and the residential area towards the Barrandov studios. It will ensure a safe passage for pedestrians to the tram and shorten the route for cyclists to Chuchelský háj.

"Originally, the bridge was supposed to be part of the tram line construction, but it was removed from the project. We, as a city district, decided to make a significant investment for the citizens of Barrandov, and we are pleased to announce the fulfillment of our promise," said mayor Milan Jančík to journalists today. The construction of the bridge, which spans approximately 45 meters, cost more than 35 million crowns. The city district covered all the expenses as the investor. The mayor had previously admitted that the costs are not small. However, he believes that the important aspect is that the bridge will provide safety and greater comfort for residents.
Residents have repeatedly complained that it is very difficult to cross the busy road safely, where hundreds of cars drive. Several accidents have occurred at the nearby intersection of K Barrandovu and Lamačova streets. Therefore, the Prague 5 administration decided to build the bridge itself.
The steel bridge, shaped like a horizontal letter S, is designed to accommodate pedestrians, cyclists, and wheelchair users. It was designed by architect Patrik Kotas, who also designed the tram line to Barrandov. The unique steel structure is suspended on two pillars placed outside the roadway. According to the project's chief engineer, Petr Ryboň, a similar bridge has not been built before.
