Cheb - The Karlovy Vary region will reconstruct the Špejchar building in Cheb, into which Gallery 4 is to be subsequently relocated. Although the region is applying for a grant for the renovation of the historical building for the needs of the photographic gallery, the reconstruction will be carried out regardless of whether it is awarded. This was stated today by the Deputy Governor of the Karlovy Vary Region, Petr Navrátil (ČSSD). "The Council of the Karlovy Vary Region has already decided on the conditions for the selection process for the contractor. The entire project is estimated at about 26 million, with the grant application being for 15 million crowns," Navrátil said. The relocation of Gallery 4 to different premises has been considered for several years. The currently unused spaces of the Špejchar next to the Franciscan monastery would be suitable for this purpose. However, the wait has been for the opportunity to obtain grants. Construction work is expected to include the addition of a staircase with an elevator, changes to the internal layout, a new external facade for the building, adjustments to internal utilities, and connections for water and sewage. The original granary building is a protected monument. "The relocation will bring the gallery to larger, nicer, and more suitable spaces for photographic exhibitions. It is further from the square, and it will also mean that the gallery will have to attract its visitors," Navrátil added.
