The chamber has released a brochure on how to restore buildings damaged by floods

Prague - The Czech Chamber of Authorized Engineers and Technicians Active in Construction (ČKAIT) has published a guide on how to proceed with the recovery of buildings affected by floods. An electronic version is available from today on its website.
    "The brochure draws from experiences with cleaning up flood damage in previous years and is intended for citizens affected by floods who will arrange for the restoration of their housing," it states in the introduction to the brochure.
    Authorized engineer in the field of energy auditing and civil engineering Jiří Šála points out that before starting the reconstruction, the owner should ask themselves whether it makes sense. "If it is not possible to limit the risk of another flood, or if the risk of damage to the building is unacceptable, then the owner should not proceed with the restoration," Šála stated. According to him, it is also important that the restoration is financially justifiable.
    ČKAIT currently has a database of 983 authorized persons in the field of structural and dynamic engineering. They are entitled to inspect the flooded property and decide whether the residents can return. According to the chairman of ČKAIT, Pavel Křeček, the vast majority of them conduct this inspection for free, as was the case during previous major floods.
