Brno - The South Moravian Region wants to convert three buildings that previously served as schools into apartments. Dozens of apartments could be created in Vyškov, Boskovice, and Znojmo, said Roman Celý (KDU-ČSL), the deputy to the regional governor, to journalists. The region will have a study prepared within two months to assist in its decision-making regarding further possible uses and costs. According to Celý, these costs will be in the tens of millions of Czech crowns.

The South Moravian Region does not want to leave unused buildings idle. "Therefore, we are considering their conversion into apartments. The council today approved the preparation of a study for the three buildings. We already have a completed study from the past for a similar use of a building in Kyjov," stated Celý.
In the past, the region has already made public its intention to convert the unused dormitory of the medical school in Kyjov in the Hodonín area, where over 30 starter apartments for young families could be created.
Now, to this intention, the region has added three more similar buildings. In Vyškov, the approximately one-hundred-year-old building is located in the complex of the former medical school dormitory. "Currently, it is only partially used for medical disciplines. However, we have approved funds for the renovation of the Vyškov school, to which this part can then be relocated," said Celý.
The next building is in Boskovice. "After optimization and the relocation of the former school, the director informed us that the building is unused," said the governor's deputy Stanislav Juránek (KDU-ČSL), who is responsible for education.
The last building is located in the area of the Znojmo Agricultural School. "The study will inform us more about the conversion possibilities, evaluate transportation options, and necessity in urban planning, provide us with rough cost estimates, and will also focus on the demand for apartments," stated Celý. In addition, the buildings could also serve as centers for social services or hospice care. "Based on that, we will also see whether we will rent out the apartments, sell them, or what we will do with them," added Celý.
