Modernist with conviction, Pavel Janák (1882-1956), did not draw attention to himself with grand gestures. He rigorously followed the theses of truthfulness and honesty in architecture, embodied in his early work from the unrealized project of a school in Karlín (1903) to the project of the Libeň Bridge. The lecture will show Janák's work between 1908 and 1924, including his theoretical beginnings. We will become acquainted with both realized and unrealized projects from this period. The lecture will be followed by information about the current technical condition of the Libeň Bridge from the initiative Libeň Bridge Not to Demolish, Not to Expand, and a short excerpt from the currently emerging documentary film by Petr Hlavička will be screened.
Lecturer: art historian Jakub Synecký
