Litvínov (Mostecko)/Teplice - The building of the former brewery in Teplice will likely make way for the construction of a supermarket. Its owner, the company InterCora, which specializes in preparing sites for hypermarkets, has already applied for a demolition order. However, the plan is not favored by experts and conservationists. According to them, the building has considerable historical value, writes today's North Bohemian edition of Mladá fronta Dnes (MfD). "The oldest standing part of the former brewery consists of cellars with baroque or late baroque vaults. The external masonry also shows clear signs of baroque craftsmanship. The building is topped with a late baroque roof structure. Other areas of the brewery are also valuable historical documents of the development of this industrial architecture," said Bohuslava Chleborádová, the head of the historical department at the Teplice museum. The Plzeň company InterCora has not yet disclosed what it intends to do with the land under the brewery. "We have only applied for a demolition order so far. A decision on the further use of this land has not yet been made. Negotiations with potential investors are still ongoing," stated Miloslav Řezníček, head of the company's construction department. The construction office of the Teplice magistrate has already granted permission for the demolition of the former brewery; however, its decision has not yet become legally binding. Brewing beer in Teplice had a tradition lasting over 450 years. The brewery was founded in 1676 by the Clary-Aldringen family, and beer was brewed in the city until the 1970s.
