Brno - The final architectural study of the International Clinical Research Center (ICRC), which is to be built on the premises of the St. Anne’s Faculty Hospital in collaboration with the Mayo Clinic in the United States, will be presented by architects by the end of May. Today, architects introduced the developed project of the planned seven-story building with three wings to interested parties as part of the international construction fairs that have started in Brno.

In the latest version, the architects have also reduced the last fifth above-ground floor so that the new building does not cast a shadow. "After consulting with the development department, we will lower the top floor," said chief architect Jiří Adam to ČTK. This will practically bring the building to the height level of the surrounding buildings on Anenská Street, which should ensure sufficient light, he added.
Architects are facing significant challenges in integrating the new building into the historic center. They are now searching for suitable materials for the cladding. On one hand, it is necessary to respect the needs of the research center, but at the same time the appearance of the surrounding buildings, emphasized Adamec.
The total built-up area of the new building, which is estimated to cost two billion crowns, will be approximately 4,600 square meters. It will house cardiology and cardiac surgery clinics, a teaching and continuing education center, laboratories for the development of new technologies, and spaces for specialized imaging methods. Accommodation for foreign research teams is also planned.
However, the bed capacity of the hospital, of which the ICRC will be a separate organizational and economic unit, will not be increased. The new building will have about 175 beds.
Preparatory work is expected to begin this year. The old, inadequate laundry facility and other unnecessary buildings will be demolished, and later the B1 building, which is in a state of emergency, will also be removed. For these works, the hospital will receive the first 100,000 crowns from the state budget later this year. In total, the state has promised to contribute 1.4 billion crowns, over 500 million will be provided by the hospital from its own resources. Approximately 50 million crowns will be contributed by Brno and the region.
