Dobříš (Příbramsko) - The Dobříš Town Hall is preparing for a comprehensive reconstruction of Mírové náměstí. It is expected to become an attractive space for locals, passing through visitors, and random tourists. The first round of the urban-architectural competition announced by the city will end on October 1, Mayor Jaroslav Melša told ČTK. "More than 30 interested parties have already collected the materials, and others could download them from the internet," he added. The submitted proposals will be evaluated by an expert committee, which will include architects Josef Pleskot, Ladislav Lábus, and Ján Štempel, alongside representatives of the city. They will select seven proposals to advance to the second round. The committee will then evaluate the proposals on December 14 and present the ranking to the councilors, who will have the final say in selecting the winning proposal. The winner of the competition is expected to develop project documentation and obtain a building permit in the first half of next year. The costs are estimated to be between 70 million and 100 million crowns, so the city will apply for a grant from the European Union. Construction is slated to begin in 2009. According to the mayor, a condition of the competition is to preserve the current character of the square. The bus station will also remain there. "We want to keep the buses in the square, but limit them so that they do not take up half of the square. At the same time, there should be amenities for people passing through the city, so they might miss a bus because they enjoy their stay," the mayor added. Residents could also express their opinions on the shape of the square in a survey. According to them, the city center should become a hub for trade, services, and relaxation.
