Prague - The Czech Technical University (ČVUT) will build three branches of the Innovation Center in Roztoky near Prague and Kladno, aimed at increasing scientists' chances of applying new technologies in practice. The construction costs will be nearly 34 million crowns, funded by European grants. Today's announcement was made by the university's spokesperson Andrea Vondráková. The facilities will be built by 2015. The first facility will be next to last year's opened research center in Roztoky, which focuses on the development and research of engines. Its construction cost 450 million crowns. The second branch will be located at the research center in the Kladno Poldi area, with construction estimated at about 750 million crowns expected to start this year. Researchers will explore how to reduce the energy intensity of buildings. The last facility will be directly in the building of the Kladno Faculty of Biomedical Engineering. "Employees of the ČVUT Innovation Center will have the opportunity to map the latest technologies suitable for commercialization," the university stated in a press release. The staff will assess the status and potential of scientific research results and prepare them for sale in both domestic and international markets. According to ČVUT, the network of regional offices should significantly increase the chances that technologies developed in the remote facilities will reach practical application. The ČVUT Innovation Center was established in 2010 and is not one of the university's faculties. It serves as a central hub for facilitating collaboration between companies and the university's scientific workers. ČVUT is one of the largest and oldest technical universities in Europe. Currently, it has eight faculties, where over 24,000 students are enrolled.
