ČSÚ: Construction in September increased by 2.9 percent year-on-year

Prague - Construction production in the Czech Republic returned to year-on-year growth in September, increasing by 2.9 percent. The previous month recorded a year-on-year decline of 3.7 percent. In September, production in building construction increased by one percent year-on-year, while in engineering construction it fell by 1.7 percent. This was reported today by the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ). This September had two more working days compared to last year, and after adjusting for the impact of the number of working days, construction production increased by 0.2 percent. Month-on-month, construction grew by 1.8 percent.


"Construction production maintained a high level compared to last September, when engineering buildings were particularly successful. Currently, building construction is doing better, which is also noticeable in the significant increase in the number of completed apartments. The stock of unprocessed construction contracts was more than ten percent higher at the end of September compared to the previous year," said Petra Cuřínová, head of the construction and housing statistics department at ČSÚ.

Building authorities issued 7,535 building permits in September, which is 12 percent more year-on-year. The estimated value of these buildings reached 33.2 billion crowns, an increase of 4.6 percent compared to last September.

The number of started apartments in September increased by 45.8 percent year-on-year to 3,653 apartments. The number of completed apartments was higher by 40.9 percent, with 3,308 apartments finished.

The average registered number of employees in the construction industry increased by 1.6 percent year-on-year in September, and their average gross monthly nominal wage increased by 5.4 percent.

For the entire third quarter, construction production was higher by 1.8 percent year-on-year, and after adjusting for the impact of the number of working days, it increased by 0.4 percent. Compared to the second quarter, it fell by 0.2 percent. Construction companies with 50 or more employees closed 15,874 construction contracts in the third quarter, a year-on-year decrease of six percent. The total value of these contracts increased by nearly one-fifth, reaching 65.1 billion crowns. Building construction grew by 4.4 percent in the third quarter and engineering construction by 35.1 percent.
